HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. — Maya Green, the TENAX Technologies marketing coordinator, adores writing inside and outside of work. TENAX’s set boundaries and organized leadership allow Green to further her education, maintain healthy relationships with her loved ones, and work on a fiction manuscript.

Green has been a member of Team TENAX since late October 2024. She found the company while looking for positions that would allow her to work more in community outreach and employee relations. Green's day-to-day duties include running social media, assisting with government proposals, managing sponsorships, and planning corporate events.

“Funny enough, what caught my eye about the job [posting] was the “free food” bullet point listed under benefits,” Green said. “What amazed me when I interviewed, was headquarters being within walking distance to my house.”

Green is a born and raised Havre de Gracean, who sought higher education at Towson University (TU) and University of Baltimore (UBalt). She has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in professional writing from TU and is currently working on a master’s degree for creative writing from UBalt.

Green comes from a family of service members and government civilians.

“My mother is currently an Army civilian at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) and has been for 17 years,” Green said. “My grandmother and great aunt recently retired; my grandmother was a DOD civilian for more than 50 years and my great aunt was a civilian to the state of Maryland. My maternal grandfather, great grandfather, and great uncle all served in the Army. My great grandfather actually served in WWII.”

Their service inspired Green to work at APG after she graduated with her bachelors. For about three years, Green supported the U.S. Army’s Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) as a public affairs officer who specialized in journalism.

“My time at CECOM with the Public Affairs Office (PAO) expanded my writing into this new sector of journalism,” Green said. “[Journalistic writing] was new to me. Luckily, I had Senior Writer, Rachel, and Communications Specialist, Megan, who taught me this new style of writing and improved my editing skills.”

Green’s preferred writing favors fiction and is inspired by novelist, Octavia Butler, and poet, Wanda Coleman.

“I really love afro fantasy; I want people of color to be able to see themselves as main characters in fantastical environments too,” Green said. “A lot of media neglects their development and/or status, casting them aside as the funny-sassy-mean best friend, disposable girlfriend, or perpetual victim in need of a savior.”

Green is able to pursue her passions outside of work due to the company's commitment to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She states that leadership encourages her to maintain boundaries.

“TENAX offers the best opportunity to have a life inside and outside of work,” Green said. “I know leadership respects both my capabilities and personal life, as they never let them bleed together. I also recognize that I’m younger, but they still respect my opinions and don’t chastise me when I need help or have questions. Outside of the office, I am allowed to mute my email notifications, once I’m logged off for the day, and truly stay logged off. I get an occasional emergency text message, but other than that, my evenings and weekends are just that—mine. I use this time to connect with my loved ones, practice self-care, and write.”
